A world in which fake things are considered more real than reality itself. This is term attributed to French sociologist Jean Baudrillard.1Jean Baudrillard, Simulacra and Simulation, Semiotext(e), 1981 Hyperreality is what the metaverse aspires to be. But in another sense it already exists in a world of mass media and systematic propaganda blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. It’s a world that values credentials over competence, contrived school environments over learning, networking over deep friendships, etc.
